Since fleet migration to Delta, it is now standard to enter 4 letter ICAO identifiers in ACARS entry fields, since that is the way Delta IT systems are set up.
3 to 4 letter code translators will allow 3 letter idendifiers to often work, but it's long term operation is not guaranteed.
